Fledgling hawks, owls, and falcons often leave the nest before they can fully fly, spending several days to a week on the ground or low branches while their parents continue to feed them and teach essential survival skills. This stage is normal and important, so please don’t kidnap them. As long as the fledgling is alert, mostly feathered, and you see or hear the parents nearby, it is safest to leave the young raptor where it is and provide simple protection from pets or other hazards. Raptor parents remain very attentive during this period and will continue caring for their fledgling even when it’s grounded. If the fledgling appears injured, cold, or you do not observe any parental activity after several hours, keep it warm and contact us for guidance.
