NIGHT HAWKS & POORWILLS
Night hawks and poorwills are ground‑nesting birds that hunt insects in the air, and during cold weather or sudden cold fronts they may enter torpor, a natural state where they slow their heart rate and conserve energy. Because of this, they are sometimes found sitting on the ground and may not fly away until temperatures rise. If the bird does not take off once it warms up, or continues to appear lethargic or unresponsive, please bring it to us for care.
