Lubbock is home to both land and aquatic turtles, and it’s important to help them safely without disrupting their natural range. If you find a turtle in the road or in a dangerous location, move it carefully in the direction it was already headed, and please do not relocate it more than one mile from where you found it—moving turtles too far can disorient them and harm their survival. Never place a land turtle in water, as they cannot swim and will drown. Helping turtles stay on their intended path is the best way to support them.
