AVIAN FLU

Avian flu season in Lubbock runs from November through April, when migrating geese and other waterfowl pass through the area. Birds affected by avian flu often show severe neurological symptoms, including stumbling, tremors, or an inability to fly. Because this virus is highly contagious, do NOT attempt to pick up sick birds without proper PPE. Avian flu primarily impacts waterfowl, ducks, geese, water birds, and raptors such as hawks and owls. If you suspect a bird is sick, please contact Lubbock Animal Control at 806‑775‑2057 for safe response and public protection.
